Modern muskkrat and coypu control Conclusion for the present |

Present fight against the muskrats - Conclusion for the present The way in which the water management board is trying to control the muskrats population, namely with the effort of many muskrats hunters in the field and a wide official top does not look like they are writing new history. It is a special kind of symbiosis between the rat and his hunter. Both populations carefully persist. It is a love-hate relationship, which indeed will last forever. Personally I have reach a point from where of I am unable to do more investigations. It is going to be to expensive. There is still a lot to study at the muskrat and his reaction on all kind of actions. The small animal cannot be kept in captivity, so all investigations have to be carried out in the field. Due to the severe Dutch regulations for experimental animal investigation, this research cannot be done on my own. A pity, because the annual massacre seems endless now. It should show a lot of wisdom if the government together with the pest control service, the water management board and the farmers would release some money to bring this under control. The investigation should start with a accurate record of all the conducting and reacting facts observed when we are disturbing the natural biotope of the rats. Especially the wide unexplored world of pheromones should be considered. Also when the small animal seems to be sensitive for predator sounds we win half the battle. At last his very sensitive nose offers many opportunities for the opposer. Specially the fact that you can make them drift away enables the opposer to catch them. The control service is already familiar with many nice reports but the real assault at the rats has not started yet. |
